The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team lost to Boerne High 2-0 March 25 in a bi-district championship.

The Lady Hounds (18-1-3, 7-1-2, District 26-4A co-district champions) scored in the first half by outrunning the Lady Mustangs (12-9, 9-3 District 25-4A third place) and converting the shot. The second goal came off a ricochet.

“In that last game, they had shots on goal, but they didn’t get overrun,” head coach Abigail Blunt said. “I can’t look back and say we played poorly. I think we played great. The girls cried because they realized this is the last game they’ll play together. They appreciate the relationships they built on the team. You want them to find the friendships. It helps.”

The end doesn’t take away another remarkable season, Blunt said, by an incredible group of players that were challenged.

“I would say (they’re) gritty,” she said. “They adaptable, they’re tough. They’re for the team. They’re a bunch of girls who will work for each other and celebrate each other.”

Blunt noted the word ‘consistency’ can be defined in many ways. Some say qualifying for the playoffs each year illustrates consistency.

“We like to be consistent in our games,” she said. “Are we still playing quality soccer (the entire match)? Are we being consistent in our passes? Are we being consistent from game to game? How are we being consistent? This is the group that’s trying to start that consistency. Being in the playoffs for two years is good, it’s impressive. And this is now the expectation. We know our district and know how to move forward. We’re going to go hard against whomever we compete.”

The team says good-bye to a superb senior class, Blunt said.

“It’s one of the best groups I’ve ever coached,” she said. “They were my first group I coached here from ninth to senior year. They were in that tough, tough, tough (District 25-5A). They were there for years. We knew how to fight, to score and defend. They were the group that stepped up. They were on the varsity their freshman year. Yes we can do this. Yes you can, let’s do it. They’re reaping the rewards. That’s huge. I can’t thank them enough.”
